Profits jump at GE

Fairfield-based General Electric announced its second quarter net earnings increased 10 percent to $5.4 billion from $4.9 billion at the same time last year. The company’s diluted and basic earnings per share also rose 10 percent to 53 cents over 48 cents last year. Revenue climbed 12 percent to $42.3 billion from $37.7 billion last year. Big gains by its lending, aviation and energy divisions offset losses by health care and NBC Universal.
