Private company payrolls grew in September by 58,000, according to the Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP) national employment report. Private companies added 27,000 employees to their payrolls between July and August. ADP characterized recent payroll growth as moderate to weak. In September, employment in the service-providing sector of the economy grew by 97,000, while employment in the goods-producing sector declined 39,000. It was the 10th consecutive monthly decline in the goods-producing sector. Employment in the manufacturing sector declined 22,000.
