Primetals to upgrade Texas-based steel mill

The Worcester-based operations of London metal machining manufacturer Primetals has won a contract to upgrade equipment at a Texas-based steel mill.

The upgrade will enable Texas-based Vinton Steel to reduce delays and increase production by enabling the mill to handle lengths of up to 80 feet.

According to Primetals, the project includes a complete bar handing arrangement from cold shear to product unloading.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Vinton Steel, founded in 1962, produces 300,000 short tons per year for the construction and mining industry. The upgrades are expected to improve production by early 2020.
