Primetals Technologies will supply several technologies for an Ohio steel making facility as the plant undergoes a major expansion and upgrade.
The Worcester company will supply the cooling bed, cold shear, abrasive saws, stackers, banders, bar bundling and banding machines for Charter Steel’s new cut-to-length, Special Bar Quality line, part of the company’s upgrade of its Cleveland steel making facility.
With the upgrade, Charter will be able to introduce an engineered bar product in sizes ranging from 19 to 83 millimeters (.75 to 3.25 inches) in diameter and bar lengths from 3.7 to 15.3 meters (12 to 50 feet). Â
Primetals will also supply new troughs, shears, water boxes, and switches, along with its stepless-reform and coil transfer technology, to upgrade Charter Steel’s existing coiled rod and bar line.
The two companies have previously worked together, according to a release from Primetals.
