Local officials joined company executives on Route 9 yesterday to cut the ribbon on a brand new, 64,000-square-foot energy-efficient Price Chopper Supermarket.
The New York-based company now has 128 stores and more than 24,000 employees in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Vermont.
The company's newest location at 731 Boston Turnpike includes a full-service pharmacy and achieved a silver rating from the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. It features skylights to reduce the number of light bulbs and has LED lightbulbs in the freezers.
On Monday night the company held a pre-party and raised $3,500 for the Worcester County Food Bank, Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services and Dogs for Dear and Disabled Americans.
