Precision Optics gets endoscope equipment order

Precision Optics, a Gardner maker of optical equipment, has received an order for $2.2 million to manufacture a cardiovascular endoscope.

The equipment will be made for the Marlborough company CardioFocus’ HeartLight Endoscopic Ablation System, which allows physicians to treat an irregular heartbeat, known as atrial fibrillation, with a minimally invasive procedure. The system uses real-time imaging and laser technology.

Precision Optics will manufacture its equipment over a two-year period starting last month. The two Central Massachusetts companies worked together on design, clinical trials and production of the system.

The HeartLight Endoscopic Ablation System has treated more than 6,000 patients in the United States, Europe and Japan, according to Precision Optics, which announced the new order Monday.
