Precision Coating launching Costa Rica plant

Courtesy The Costa Rica plant for Precision Coating will be the company's first manufacturing plant outside of the U.S.

Hudson’s Precision Coating is establishing its first manufacturing operations outside the U.S. with a new 14,000-square-foot plant in Costa Rica that will be up and running by the end of the month.

"Costa Rica presented the best combination of operating cost, workforce talent, and logistical advantages as we considered our options to establish a low-cost manufacturing facility for our rapidly growing company,” Robert DeAngelis, president of Precision Coating Co. Inc. (PCCI), said in a statement.

According to PCCI, with an increasing amount of medical device products being produced in Costa Rica, the country has become a regional hub for medical device, biotech, and health care companies.

The new plant will allow PCCI to run highly automated processes, according to a release from the company, and will result in approximately 30 Costa Rican jobs. The new plant will produce PCCI’s fluoropolymer coatings that are used in the medical device field.

PCCI, a subsidiary of Katahdin Industries, Inc. of Dedham, coats medical devices such as guide wires, core wires, hypotubes, and forming mandrels.
