A New Jersey based company has submitted an application to the Worcester’s Zoning Board of Appeals to tear down the 5 & Diner restaurant at 525 Lincoln St. to build a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen location.
The Parikh Network LLC, headquartered in Edison, New Jersey, wants to tear down the diner, which closed in 2012, to build a new restaurant with a drive-thru. If approved and built, it would be the second Popeyes in the city, after the location on Park Avenue.
Popeyes has been trying to open a restaurant in Lincoln Plaza for some time and is waiting to get started, said Tony Halsey of Kite Realty Group Trust in Indianapolis, which owns the property.Amish Parikh is the president and co-founder of Parikh Network, according to LinkedIn. The Parikh Network owns 120 Popeyes stores and sealed a deal to open 50 new Arby’s and purchased 18 corporate-owned Arby’s restaurants, according to a 2020 Franchise Times story.
In 2005, Lincoln Plaza was sold to Inland Real Estate Acquisitions Inc., for $52 million, the Boston Business Journal reported at the time. Inland Western Retail Real Estate Trust changed its name to Retail Properties of America, Inc. in March 2012. In October 2021, it merged with Kite Realty Group Trust.
