Poll: Trump has strong lead in Mass; Clinton-Sanders tied

Donald Trump holds an enormous lead in the five-way Republican presidential primary in Massachusetts, with 50 percent of the vote, according to a survey by the Emerson College Polling Society released Monday.
Conducted Friday, Saturday and Sunday by the student-run organization, the poll of 289 likely Republican primary voters has a 5.7 percent margin of error.
The poll of 417 likely Democratic primary voters showed former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders tied with 46 percent apiece and a 4.75 percent margin of error.
In the Republican field, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio placed second with 16 percent; Ohio Gov. John Kasich followed in third with 13 percent; followed by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (10 percent) and Ben Carson (2 percent).
According to Real Clear Politics, the Emerson student-run poll is the first survey of Massachusetts Republican primary voters since November when a Suffolk University/Boston Globe poll found Trump at 32 percent, followed by Rubio at 18 percent and Cruz at 10 percent.
After Cruz won the Iowa caucuses, Trump took first place in the New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries. Clinton edged Sanders in Iowa and Nevada caucuses and lost to the Vermont senator in New Hampshire.
Massachusetts Republicans and Democrats vote March 1.
