BioLife Plasma Services, part of the Japanese biopharmaceutical company Takeda, will open its first Massachusetts plasma center in Worcester on Saturday, with plans to open an additional facility in Medford in the spring, the company announced on Wednesday.
The Worcester facility is slated to include 50 new jobs at the 68 Stafford St. outpost.
Plasma donations received at BioLife centers are used by Takeda to make therapies for a range of diseases, including immunodeficiency disorders, per the announcement.
BiLife operates more than 160 plasma donation centers in the United States.
