Planet Fitness to open first Auburn location

A new Planet Fitness is coming to Worcester County as the franchise fitness center is opening its first Auburn location come November.

The 18,000 square-foot facility will be located at 366 Southbridge St., according to a Monday press release from Planet Fitness.

“We’re thrilled to bring our Judgment Free Zone to Auburn, a community that deserves easy access to top-notch, affordable fitness options,” Bruce Edwards, CEO of Core Development and Management, Planet FItness franchise group, said in the press release.

The company’s new location will mark the 17th Planet Fitness club in Central Massachusetts, according to its website.

The Auburn facility will feature free weights, 51 pieces of cardio equipment, 56 pieces of strength equipment, fitness training, and specialty member offerings including massage chairs, cryotherapy units, and a lounge.

“Our mission is to provide a welcoming space where everyone feels valued and comfortable, with brand-new, state-of-the-art, and exceptionally maintained fitness centers. We can’t wait to become a part of the Auburn community and support their health and wellness goals,” Edwards said in the release.

The new location will be staffed from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Planet FItness’ most recent Central Massachusetts location comes after the franchiser announced in January it would open a 15,578-square-foot location in Worcester’s Mercantile Center.

Headquartered in Dover, New Hampshire, Planet Fitness operates 2,762 locations with approximately 20.8 million members throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada, Panama, Mexico, Australia, and Spain, according to the press release.
