The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection on Friday announced it assessed a $40,280 penalty against Dynamic Cleaning, Inc. of Plainville for asbestos regulation violations.
The violations, which occurred during work at a multi-family residence on Oak Street in Worcester, included improper removal and management of flooring materials that contained asbestos, according to MassDEP.
An inspector observed contaminated materials on the basement floor and an open-top dumpster. Additionally, Dynamic Cleaning did not conduct an asbestos survey or notify MassDEP 10 days prior to commencing asbestos removal work.
Regulations surround asbestos handling and removal due to its status as a known carcinogen. Dynamic Cleaning is required to pay $25,000 of the assessed penalty with the remainder suspended if the company does not violate the regulations further.
