All nine Piccadilly Pub restaurants - including five in Central Massachusetts - appear to be closed as the Boston-based chain's parent company goes through bankruptcy troubles.
All of the restaurants are in Massachusetts, including sites in Worcester, Auburn, Sturbridge, Marlborough and Westborough.
A notice posted on the door of the Shrewsbury Street Piccadilly Pub in Worcester read: "Piccadilly Pub Restaurants have temporarily closed. Currently, a date has not been set for a re-opening. We apologize for any inconvenience. I'd like to thank each of you for your loyalty through the years and hope that we may have the chance to serve you again in the future."
The Piccadilly chain was acquired in 2008 by Canada-based Repechage Investments Ltd.
Another of Repechage's pub chains, Elephant & Castle, also based in Boston, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June 2011, records show.
That chain was sold Monday for $22.7 million to another Canadian company called FranWorks Group of Companies, according to a statement from FranWorks.
The Piccadilly restaurants were not a part of that sale, a FranWorks spokeswoman said in an email.
A message left at Piccadilly's corporate offices seeking comment was not immediately returned this morning, nor was a message left on the cell phone of Terra Nova Pub Group executive Gary Heller.
Terra Nova was formed in 2009 to consolidate Repechage's restaurant holdings, according to its Facebook page. Terra Nova, Piccadilly, and Elephant & Castle were all based out of the same corporate offices in Boston, records show.
