Recently, six-year-old Worcester resident Liza Rosenblum, a Children's Hospital Boston patient threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to a Boston Red Sox game. Liza also assisted CVS Caremark in presenting a $27,500 check to Children's Hospital Boston. The Workers' Credit Union of Fitchburg recently dedicated its oak paneled library to the memory of Arthur M. Longsjo with a commemorative, engraved plaque. The dedication ceremony included a dozen race volunteers along with Terry Longsjo Brackett, the widow of Art Longsjo. Spectrum Health Systems recently held a charity golf tournament at Kettlebrook Golf Club in Paxton. The event raised $38,000 to be contributed toward Spectrum's charitable substance abuse treatment services and expanding the women's and children's centers in Westborough. The Knox Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America recently named Anthony M. Consigli, president of Consigli Construction Co. Inc. as the recipient of the 2008 Distinguished Citizen Award. This award is presented to individuals who have excelled in their chosen careers and attained an exceptional level of achievement in personal leadership and success.
Of Note...
Worcester State College received a $2 million gift from 1963 graduate Steven Keenan and his wife, Jacqueline. The gift is the highest on record for the school.
The Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE) in Waltham has given a “Profitable Connections” award to the Massachusetts Community Development Finance Corporation (CDFC) for its work in helping finance small business operations and expansions.
Junior Achievement of Central Massachusetts received a $5,000 contribution from the Verizon Foundation for economic literacy and workforce awareness programs at Worcester’s Elm Park School.
