Phoenix gets annuity from life sales

Numbers at The Phoenix Cos. in Hartford show that people want to buy life insurance. The company reported a nearly 70 percent net income increase to $33.2 million this quarter from $19.6 million at the same time last year. Accounting for the jump is a 19 percent rise in the life and annuity pre-tax operating income and more than a 50 percent rise in total life insurance sales.
