The Doctor Franklin Perkins School in Lancaster, an agency for children and adults with complex learning challenges, has been awarded a $12,000 grant to help students with readiness for college.
The grant from the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts, which was announced Wednesday, was awarded following a competitive process. The grant will allow Perkins to send up to five students to Mount Wachusett Community College this academic year and support a continuation and expansion of Perkins' Adult Transition Program, which helps Perkins students prepare for moving on to college and with job training skills.
Perkins students will have the option of attending Mount Wachusett courses online or in-person. The Gardner college has an academic coaching model helping students with individualized learning strengths.
The challenges Perkins students often face can make college daunting, Cindy Wing, the chief academic officer at Perkins, said in a statement.
