Pending Home Sales Up In January

The number of pending single family home sales increased by 8 percent in January compared to the same month a year ago, according to the Massachusetts Association of Realtors.

Pending condo sales were up 10 percent over the same period, the association said.

January was the seventh consecutive month of pending sales increases and indicated that prospective buyers “not only feel it is a good time to buy, but are also going to the next step and actually making offers,” the association said.

Nearly 2,800 single family homes were put under agreement in January, and while that is 8 percent greater than a year ago, it is only 1.7 percent more than were put under agreement in December.

A transaction is considered “pending” when parties have signed a purchase and sale agreement.
