Pelmeds, a Waltham-based closed-door pharmacy specializing in medication management and delivery with a location in Fitchburg, has acquired the Brockton-based pharmacy Apothecare.
With the acquisition, Pelmeds will operate Apothecare’s closed-door, 13,000-square-foot facility which was fully renovated in 2019 and equipped with a prescription dispensing system and compounding laboratory, according to a Thursday press release from Pelmeds. Apothecare was previously owned by TelyRx, a healthcare company based in Florida.
With 55 employees of its own, Pelmeds plans to retain Apothecare’s 53 employees throughout the acquisition.
Acquiring Apothecare, a pharmacy similar to Pelmeds with experience working with agencies that support those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is part of the pharmacy’s efforts to widen its operational reach and expand its services to hospice and palliative care providers.
“We are excited to welcome Apothecare clients and employees to the Pelmeds family,” Bhuren Patel, president of Pelmeds, said in the release. “This acquisition will enable us to expand our capabilities, serve more patients and bring our quality care, automation and systems to patients served by Apothecare. Providing excellent customer service and maintaining the highest standards is our top priority.”
Pelmeds’ acquisition of Apothecare is finalized and subject to regulatory approval by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.
