Luis Pedraja was to be formally inaugurated as the Quinsigamond Community College president Friday, nearly at the end of his first academic year at the Worcester school.
The inauguration was set for at 10 a.m. at QCC's Hebert Auditorium, with college, city and state officials on hand.
Pedraja became QCC's first new president in a decade when he was chosen in March of last year to succeed Gail Carberry. His term began in July.
Pedraja was most recently the interim vice chancellor of academic affairs for the 35,000-student Peralta Community College District in the Oakland area of California. He is a native of Cuba who grew up in Miami and was the first in his family to attend college.
Pedraja's career included teaching stints at the University of Puget Sound in Washington and Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He was also a provost and vice president of academic affairs at Antioch University Los Angeles.
