Payless bankruptcy will leave eight Central Mass. stores empty

Discount shoe chain Payless ShoeSource’s bankruptcy filing on Monday will bring the closure of eight Central Massachusetts locations.

The closures are due to take place by the end of May, Reuters reported. The Kansas-based retailer said last year it had more than 3,500 stores in more than 40 countries. Only the United States locations will be closed.

Payless closed its location at the Greendale Mall in Worcester in 2017 but has another Worcester location, in Webster Square, at 68 Stafford St.

Other locations are at the Auburn Mall, the Solomon Pond Mall in Marlborough, the Mall at Whitney Field and Twin City Plaza in Leominster, Natick Mall, at 400 Cochituate Road in Framingham, and Milford Plaza in Milford.
