Gov. Deval Patrick is scheduled to give the keynote address at Becker College's commencement ceremony on May 14 at the Hanover Theatre in Worcester.
Becker also plans to bestow an honorary doctorate degree of humane letters upon Patrick at the ceremony. Sharing in that honor will be Frederick H. Eppinger, president and CEO of the Worcester-based Hanover Insurance Group, who will receive the same degree.
Becker President Robert E. Johnson said in a statement that both men have "tremendous drive and commitment to excel and to lead."
Johnson praised Patrick's track record in funding education, school reform initiatives such as the Race to the Top program and fostering of the life sciences industry.
Johnson said that Hanover's investments in Worcester have changed the landscape of the city. Those investments include CitySquare, the Hanover Theatre and Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field, which is the home of the Worcester Tornadoes baseball team.
Becker's 2011 graduating class has 325 members.
