Patents Tied To UMass Medical Reaffirmed

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has reaffirmed the validity of a set of inventions behind four patents in the field of RNA therapeutics held by a professor at University of Massachusetts Medical School, according to a UMass Medical statement.
The ruling validates the inventions known as the "Zamore Design Rules," named for Phillip D. Zamore, a professor of biochemistry and molecular pharmacology at the school. The licenses to the patents are held by Silence Therapeutics, based in London.
RNA therapy helps in the treatment of diseases, specifically cancer, by killing harmful and unwanted cells.
