Oxford manufacturer acquires Southbridge fastener line

An Oxford manufacturer of precision machine components has acquired the miniature fastener business of a 97-year-old Southbridge company.
Swissturn/USA, an Oxford machine job shop, announced Tuesday it has acquired the miniature fastener line of J.I. Morris Co., a manufacturer of miniature screws and nuts.
In a press release, Swissturn called J.I. Morris a world leader in the industry, best known for miniature screws, self-tapping screws, hex nuts, flat washers and turned parts.
Production of those products will immediately shift to Swissturn’s Oxford facility. Swissturn called the acquisition a natural fit because the company uses screw machines for production of miniature parts.
Swissturn will market fasteners using the J.I. Morris name. The polishing pad and miniature tap lines remain with the original J.I. Morris Company in Southbridge, the company said.
Swissturn currently has 60 employees and expects the new fastener line to add three to four new jobs, including two employees hired from J.I. Morris’ fastener line.
The price of the purchase was not disclosed.
