Optim Inc. of Sturbridge was awarded a $499,875 contract by the Dept. of Homeland Security to supply LED fiberscopes to US Customs & Border Protection.
The FreedomView LED Fiberscope, the firm’s newest product, will allow users to see into gas tanks, car vents, door panels, and concealed areas to inspect for contraband. The device is lighter and provides more mobility for the end users, many of whom provided Optim with key feedback in developing an improved product.
The fiberscope has applications in other industries as well, including aviation, automotive and general inspections. The device also has three patents pending, and over 60 units have been delivered.
