OmniViz, a Maynard-based software firm, has entered an agreement to merge with UK-based BioWisdom, a transaction that will add 15 new employees at OmniViz's headquarters.
OmniViz is a spin-off of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, a company operated for the U.S. Dept. of Energy by Battelle, a global science and technology firm. The newly-combined company will specialize in providing healthcare intelligence to the pharmaceutical industry. The merger will give BioWisdom a presence in North America, the company said in a release.
OmniViz's software is designed to deal with large data sets, and provides visualization of those data sets, along with categorical data, genome sequences, chemical structures, and text documents.
"The combination of technologies will enable customers to extract greater value from the overwhelming amounts of biomedical information, ultimately leading to improved healthcare," said Jeff Saffer, former OmniViz president and the new president of BioWisdom's US operations.
