A $5-million unrestricted bequest to Old Sturbridge Village is officially the largest single gift in the museum’s history, the Sturbridge organization announced Wednesday.

The gift comes from honorary trustee Helen A. (Susie) Titus of Newport Beach, Calif., who passed away last year following a brief illness, per the announcement.

“Susie was incredibly supportive of the museum over the past twenty years, and we are grateful that she made such a generous provision for the Village in her estate planning,” said Jim Donahue, president and CEO of Old Sturbridge Village, in a statement. “Susie’s legacy and impact will live on for generations to come.”

The museum plans to use the gift as the cornerstone for a planned capital campaign as it begins celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The funds will help address capital needs at Old Sturbridge Village, including building and landscape preservation.
