Clinton-based plastics manufacturer Nypro Inc. will be adding 100 jobs to its Ireland facility over the next year.
Company spokesman Al Cotton confirmed that the jobs will be added as a result of new health care product developments and will involve making molds and molding medical devices for pharmaceutical and health care applications.
The additional jobs will bring the total at the Bray facility to 460, according to a press release from the Irish government. Cotton said that's an average-size plant for Nypro. The company has 41 locations in 14 countries, with about 30 of the facilities being manufacturing plants. The Ireland plant is one of the company's two health care device development centers, Cotton said. It's one of the company's major European operations and is also its oldest, opening in 1980. The facility has had ongoing renovations and a minor expansion to accommodate a growing workforce.
In a statement, Ireland's jobs minister, Richard Bruton, said health care and life sciences are sectors targeted by the government for employment growth and the country has taken measures to support the industry, including a Health Innovation Hub to support collaboration between the health system and government.
