Four additional coronavirus cases were reported for Worcester County on Thursday afternoon, while the Massachusetts total jumped by 72 to 328.
Worcester County now has 14 total cases, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. That's the sixth highest total by county in Massachusetts, led by Middlesex County with 119 and Suffolk County with 72.
Massachusetts had the ninth highest total in the country as of earlier in the day Thursday, when its total stood at 256, according to a tally by The New York Times. It had been sixth but has been passed by a faster-rising number of cases in Louisiana, Georgia and Illinois. New York, which has ramped up testing efforts, has the most, with 4,152.
Unlike those and a rising number of states, Massachusetts has yet to report a coronavirus fatality. Nationwide, more than 172 have died, The Times has reported.
The cause of almost half of the cases in Massachusetts, 151, remain under investigation, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. In 43 cases, patients have been hospitalized.
