Nuclea Biotechnologies LLC, which has operations at Clark University's Lasry Center for Bioscience in Worcester, has opened the "Nuclea Genomics Center" in Pittsfield.
The 3,500-square-foot facility is the second of the company's planned three-phase corporate expansion. The center will house instrumentation designed to examine the genes of certain cancer patients in order to develop new diagnostic tests and treatments.
Phase three of the expansion is the opening of a biological manufacturing facility in Pittsfield by the end of the year.
The company has raised $8 million in new capital over the last 12 months, according to the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center.
Susan Windham-Bannister, the center's CEO, attended the opening in Pittsfield Wednesday along with representatives from the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council and Nuclea executives.
