NStar, the utility serving much of MetroWest and Eastern Massachusetts, is proposing a cut in the price of natural gas beginning Feb. 1.
Prompted by the declining cost of natural gas, NStar says it plans to reduce gas prices by 16 percent on Feb. 1. The change must be approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities.
The company said the lower price will save the average customer $15 a month compared with current rates. Because gas has already been cheaper this winter than last, the new average cost would be about $30 a month less than last year.
