Notre Dame Health Care has named Philip Hickey as the Worcester-based nonprofit’s new president and CEO.

Hickey has 40 years of leadership experience throughout several healthcare industry sectors, including post-acute care, long term care, memory care, and assisted living, according to a Wednesday press release from Notre Dame Health Care.

“My values around senior care parallel with the mission of Notre Dame Health Care and our sponsors, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur,” Hickey said in the release. “I feel honored and privileged to help lead this organization and am looking forward to working with all the staff and meeting our residents, patients and families.”

Hickey replaces Karen Laganelli, who is retiring after a 10-year tenure in the role.

Prior to joining Notre Dame, Hickey most recently served as system vice president of three Maine post-acute facilities for Andover-based Covenant Health while acting as president of the post-acute and independent living facility at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion, a Maine member of Covenant Health. Before that, Hickey held the role of CEO and executive director at Twining Village, a senior living community in Pennsylvania.

“We are confident Philip will be a strong and collaborative leader and a wonderful addition to the NDHC family,” John Mannila, Notre Dame board chair, said in the release.

Hickey earned his bachelor’s degree in healthcare management from Century University in New Mexico and his MBA from Trinity College and University in Louisiana.

Founded in 1990 and servicing the community since 1993, Notre Dame Health Care provides post-acute programs and services including assisted living residence, physical rehab, and adult and pediatric hospice and palliative care. In 2022, Notre Dame had generated $31.2 million in revenue and held $55.3 million in assets, according to the most recent tax filing from nonprofit data provider GuideStar.
