Northborough pharmacy closing after 119 years

Shattuck Pharmacy in Northborough will fill its last prescription on Wednesday after 119 years in business.

Owner Paul Shattuck, who took over operations in 1980 after his father’s retirement, said in a letter posted to Facebook low insurance reimbursements combined with rising healthcare costs have made it difficult for pharmacies to operate.

“For 37 years, I have had the privilege of serving our greater community and providing pharmacy services to so many friends and their families. You have honored us with your trust and patronage,” the letter read. “I have been so fortunate to have the best associates as co-workers and friends.”

After the doors close for the last time, Shattuck will transfer its prescription records to CVS Pharmacy in Northborough, which has pledged to service the needs of Shattuck customers, according to the letter.
