Northborough Crossing, a 600,000-square-foot, $100 million open-air retail center, will open next fall, developers told Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray on Wednesday.
Murray visited the development site yesterday to get an update on the property. The development was formerly known as The Shops 9@20. New England Development of Newton and Brendon Properties of Southborough are teaming up to develop the complex.
The project is already about 90 percent leased, officials said, with Rochester, N.Y.-based supermarket chain Wegmans set to be the anchor tenant. The location will be Wegmans' first in New England. The development will also include Kohls, Babies R Us, Toys R Us, Michaels, PetSmart, TJ Maxx and Golf Town.
The development is expected to create 600 construction jobs and 1,200 permanent jobs upon completion.
The retail portion of the site is just one part of the 175-acre development, which also includes a 382-unit apartment complex called Avalon Northborough, which is being developed by Arlington, Va.-based Avalon Bay Communities Inc.
