The North Central Massachusetts Development Corp. has received $946,000 in federal aid to help small businesses suffering during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Fitchburg agency, a lending and financing arm of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce, was one of nine regional recipients in Massachusetts whose funding totaled $17.8 million. The funds, announced Friday, are part of the $2-trillion federal CARES Act program enacted to help businesses and workers through the pandemic.
The North Central Massachusetts Development Corp. has been given funding to administer loans to businesses in 24 cities and towns in northern Worcester County and northwest Middlesex County: Ashburnham, Ashby, Ayer, Barre, Boxborough, Clinton, Fitchburg, Gardner, Groton, Harvard, Hubbardston, Hudson, Lancaster, Littleton, Leominster, Lunenburg, Phillipston, Shirley, Sterling, Stowe, Templeton, Townsend, Westminster, and Winchendon.
Businesses in the town of Athol will also benefit from a $803,000 grant given to the Franklin County Community Development Corp. in Greenfield.
Other funds will be directed to businesses statewide, including $4.1 million through the Charlestown-based Massachusetts Growth Capital Corp. and $500,000 to the Boston-based Massachusetts Technology Development Corp.
