Nineteen companies from across the state have been selected to compete for the 2017 Massachusetts Economic Impact Awards, MassEcon announced Wednesday.
The companies, many from the medical industry, come from all over the state and have collectively fueled more than 1,500 jobs and invested more than $500 million since January 2016, the agency said.
"We are pleased to recognize Massachusetts companies that contribute so much to the Commonwealth’s success,” Susan Houston, executive director of MassEcon, said in a statement. "The diversity of industries throughout the entire state demonstrates that Massachusetts is an outstanding location for businesses to expand and call home."
The finalists will compete in regional categories: West, Central, Southeast, Northeast and Greater Boston. Each region will produce gold, silver and bronze winners to be announced in October and recognized at an awards luncheon Nov. 21. Companies will present one-minute elevator pitches about their growth to a panel of business leaders and judges, including Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Jay Ash.
From Greater Boston, finalists are cell and gene therapy biologics company Brammer Bio, "brown shoe" company Clarks Americas, Italian food marketplace Eataly, small appliance designer and manufacturer SharkNinja and Thermo Fisher Scientific, a biotech product development and scientific instrument company.
Finalists from central Massachusetts are Cumberland Farms, medical instrument company Instrumentation Laboratory, pharmaceutical drug company Nitto Denko Avecia, and SMC Ltd., a medical device and equipment company. From the northeast, finalists are medical device manufacturer Abiomed, disease therapy company EMD Serono and "human capital management" company Kronos.
Western Massachusetts contenders include Avista Pharma Solutions, Inc., which provides testing, development and manufacturing for the pharmaceutical industry, laminate industry designer and decor printer Interprint USA, Inc., and automotive company Tsubaki.
In the southeast, finalists are thermal packaging company Cold Chain Technologies, wine and spirits distributor Martignetti Companies, kitchen supplier Metropolitan Cabinets and Countertops and New England Ice Cream Corporation, which specializes in frozen desserts.
