NFL Is eClinicalWorks' Newest Customer

The National Football League may have some of the most modern instant replay equipment in the world, but when it comes to medical files, it still uses paper records.

But that's going to change, now that the NFL has chosen Westborough-based eClinicalWorks to digitize its record keeping.

CEO Girish Kumar Nuvani said in an announcement that his company has implemented electronic medical records in a variety of settings, but that the NFL will be special.

"Being a fan of the NFL makes this particular project that much more meaningful," he said.

The move comes as NFL medical staff have started using tablets and other technology to assess on-field injuries. A New York Times story last month noted that a league-wide system would eliminate redundancies in evaluating player health, such as avoiding multiple X-rays.
