Sequel Law, a Worcester-based firm specializing in divorce and family law, has been acquired by Turco Legal, a Newburyport-based law firm.
The move will see Sequel Founder Brian Waller, attorney Akosua Agyepong, and paralegal Owusuaa Agyare join Sequel, according to a LinkedIn post from Turco Legal on Oct. 3.
Turco will close its Newton satellite office and retain its operations in Worcester, said Turco Founder and Partner Damian Turco.
“Our plan is to build a team of five or six lawyers working out of Worcester of varying degrees of experience,” Turco said.
Waller’s and Agyepong’s reputation as attorneys was a major driver in the deal, he said while highlighting the benefits of having a presence in Worcester.
“Worcester is an incredible community. It’s really tight. Everyone in the legal community seems to know each other, which is nice,” he said. “It’s a market we are litigating in already, and we were serving from our other offices; but it just makes it easier for us to work out there.”
The expansion to Worcester will see Sequel continue to operate its Justice for All Program, a fee-reduction assistance program that reduces the cost for legal representation for those who might otherwise be without an attorney. The program sees rates as low as $100 per hour, but Turco said the firm is working to reduce the Justice for All rate to $50 by the end of next year.
Specializing in divorce, family, and personal injury law, Turco was founded in 2008 and has offices in Newburyport, Andover, and Boston.
Turco is at least the second Boston-area law firm to expand into Worcester in 2024; Boston-based Prince Lobel Tye announced in July it would open a Worcester office, bringing a number of former Bowditch & Dewey attorneys with them.
