Barry M. Maloney will report for duty today to Worcester State University, where he will be the institution’s 11th president.
Maloney, who previously served as interim president and in several other roles at Westfield State University, is replacing Janelle C. Ashley, who is retiring. The university’s board of trustees approved Maloney’s appointment in April.
Maloney said in a statement that one of his focuses will be creating a capital planning committee that will look for funding to build a wellness center and student housing.
