Owners of The Sole Proprietor and One Eleven Chop House restaurants, Robb and Madeleine Ahlquist, are opening another eatery at 89 Shrewsbury St. in Worcester.
VIA, an Italian restaurant, is located in the flatiron-style building that was formerly used by the Worcester Public School Department. The 7,500 square foot space will provide seating for 200 and will include private dining areas for 35 and 15 as well as a semi-private space for 25 guests. Diners will be able to order until 1:30 a.m. and the restaurant will be open seven days a week. Diners will be able to take food to-go and most meals will be moderately priced under $20.
"We believe VIA will greatly enhance the reputation of Shrewsbury Street as the area’s top dining destination," says Madeleine Ahlquist. "We’re proud of the success of the Sole Proprietor and One Eleven Chop House and are pleased to be able to provide Worcester with our third restaurant."
The design and construction team that built One Eleven Chop House adjacent to VIA and redesigned the Sole Proprietor is also responsible for VIA. Niemitz Design of Boston is the designer, with architectural duties performed by Gregory O’Connor Associates, and general contractor services supplied by Whipple Construction of Worcester.
