New Qteros Patents

Qteros, the Marlborough company working on microbe-based ethanol production, has received new patent protection for its technology.

Qteros, and its academic partner, the University of Massachusetts Amherst, received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office covering the development of genomes and use of gene combinations in microorganisms to enhance ethanol production.

The Japanese Patent and Trademark Office also allowed a patent for Qteros's biomass fermentation process, which is already covered by a U.S. patent. The company said the allowance represents progress toward global protection of its technology.
