Assumption College of Worcester has hired Francis Lazarus, president emeritus of the University of Dallas, as provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Lazarus, who starts the job June 15, replaces Frederick Travis, who served as interim provost since 2008.
Lazarus led the University of Dallas from 2004 to 2009. He has also worked in leadership positions for the University of San Diego, Marquette University and the University of Dayton. Before that, he was a professor of classical literature at colleges including the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Lazarus is a graduate of Canisius College and has a master’s degree and doctorate from Cornell University. He and his wife, Carol, have three children and three grandchildren.
