CVS Caremark opened its second MinuteClinic in Worcester County this morning in Uxbridge while announcing that three more clinics will open in Central Massachusetts within the next two months.
The walk-in medical clinic staffed by nurse practitioners, and linked to UMass Memorial Health Care of Worcester through a clinical collaboration, will be located inside the Uxbridge CVS at the intersection of North Main Street and Hartford Avenue. On hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning were State Sen. Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge) and Dr. David Fairchild, senior vice president of clinical integration for UMass Memorial.
The opening comes a year after CVS Caremark opened its first Central Massachusetts MinuteClinic in Northborough. Next month, CVS plans to open two more clinics, one in Grafton (100 Worcester St.) and the other in Charlton (142 Worcester Rd.), according to Brent Burkhardt, a spokesman for CVS Caremark. Another clinic is scheduled to open in Worcester in mid-January at 44 West Boylston St.
MinuteClinic nurse practitioners specialize in family health and offer services for acute ailments such as strep throat and ear, eye, sinus and bronchial infections. Minor burns and skin conditions are treated, and common vaccinations such as influenza, tetanus, pneumonia, pertussis and Hepatitis A & B are available at most locations, according to a statement from CVS Caremark. No appointment is necessary at any clinic and most health insurance is accepted.
