New hires and promotions for the Jan. 19, 2009 issue of the WBJ (posted 1/19/09)



ViryaNet, a wireless workforce management company based in Southborough, has promoted JEFF GALIN to senior vice president of worldwide sales. Galin previously served as vice president of North American sales for the company. He joined the company in 1997 after working as vice president of sales at Precise Software Solutions in Wellesley.

Marlborough Savings Bank has promoted DAWN M. MELANSON to senior vice president of operations and SEBI OVESIAN to assistant vice president of loan operations. Melanson has been with the bank since 2003 and has 27 years of banking experience. Ovesian joined the bank in 2007, after serving as the director of loan servicing for Members Mortgage Co. in Woburn and assistant treasurer/loan servicing manager for Sovereign Bank/Compass Bank for Savings.

Savers Bank of Southbridge has appointed MARGE ROCKWOOD to the new position of business development officer. In the job, Rockwood will work with branch managers to promote the bank to individual customers and businesses. Rockwood is a Sturbridge resident.

Westborough staffing and personnel company The Suburban Group has hired an AstraZeneca veteran as a senior scientific recruiter. SIGMUND “ZIGGY” M. WARASZKIEWICZ will develop recruitment activities in biotech, pharmaceutical and scientific areas. Previously, Waraszkiewicz spent 33 years at AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, most recently as the director of quality assurance in laboratory sciences.

DAVID A. MURPHY, a registered professional engineer in Tighe & Bond Inc.’s Worcester office, was promoted to associate. Murphy has more than 20 years of experience in senior project management. He has run major design and construction, reconstruction and environmental programs. Tighe & Bond has offices in Westfield, Worcester and Pocasset, and in three Connecticut locations.

Worcester’s Harmon Home Health has hired BRETT SALMONSON as community relations manager. Salmonson lives in Oxford and has experience doing marketing for private home health companies. She is a co-chair of the Worcester Regional Chamber’s ambassador committee and serves on the advisory board for the Central Massachusetts Agency on Aging.

Rollstone Bank & Trust in Fitchburg has promoted five employees to spots including major executive positions. RICHARD WILLIAMS, a Gardner resident who joined the bank in 1999, was named senior vice president of retail lending. DEBORAH CORMIER was promoted to vice president of mortgage originations and CRA officer. SANDRA CRORY was named mortgage origination officer. She has been with the bank for seven years. LEE DEARBORN, who has been at the bank for 10 years, is the new network systems officer. AMY BONILLA was promoted to human resources manager.

The law firm of Bowditch & Dewey LLP has hired three new lawyers. TAL DIBNER is an associate in the firm’s business group, concentrating on corporate and banking law. SEAN DONOVAN joined the firm as an associate in the estate, financial and tax planning practice area. CATHERINE PRESTON is an associate in the real estate and environmental practice group.

As part of a merger, Northborough-based Swiftec IT Inc. has hired RENATO PAIVA, founder of Rhode Island’s BITS Inc., as a senior technician. He is a Microsoft-certified systems engineer and certified Lotus Notes specialist with experience in Novell Netware. He has provided disaster recovery solutions to many companies and assisted with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.

Butler Bank, the Andover-based bank that recently acquired Marlborough Co-Operative Bank, has promoted four employees. CHARLETTE WEEDEN-WESTHEATHER BURNS was promoted to vice president. Evan Cline of Worcester is now assistant treasurer/controller at Butler. was promoted to assistant vice president of retail sales and development. FRANK MCGRANE, a resident of Salem, N.H., was promoted to vice president of special assets.

Tom Ruble Real Estate Services of Ashburnham has hired JACKIE HALPA as a new agent. Halpa earned her real estate license in 2007 and has worked with both sellers and buyers. She previously worked for Jack Conway & Co. Inc. in Norton.

Long Beach, Calif.-based human resources consulting group Riviera Advisors has hired DAN KILGORE as its newest principal. Kilgore will be based in Millbury, representing the company’s first outpost on the east coast.

Holden-based Woodmeister Master Builders has hired DANIEL PAQUETTE as chief sustainability officer. Paquette has worked in sustainable construction for more than 36 years.
