New England’s unemployment rate remained at 7.9 percent in May, below the national jobless rate of 9.1 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Massachusetts also remains slightly below the regional average at 7.8 percent.
The New England unemployment rate was 8.5 percent a year ago.
New Hampshire, at 4.8 percent, had the third-lowest jobless rate in the country in May while Rhode Island posted the third-highest at 10.9 percent.
