Former Uxbridge town accountant Justin Cole was indicted on Thursday before a statewide Grand Jury on additional charges related to allegedly stealing more than $200,000 from the towns of Uxbridge and Wenham, Attorney General Maura Healey’s office announced late the same day.
Cole, who was indicted in July for allegedly stealing more than $729,000 from Uxbridge, Millville and Monterey, a Western Massachusetts town, is now collectively accused of stealing approximately $930,000 across all charges.
Cole will be arraigned on the new charges in Middlesex Superior Court at a later date, according to the AG’s office.
Across all charges, the AG’s office alleges Cole used his position as Uxbridge’s town accountant to submit and approve dozens of false invoices resulting in the town paying for services which were not provided, through which he stole funds. Cole is accused of using Bay State Municipal Accounting Group, of which he is the sole proprietor, to provide accounting and financial services to towns, through which he stole money from Millville, Monterey and Wenham.
Cole stepped down as Uxbridge’s full-time accountant in July 2017, after which he allegedly used his sole proprietorship to continue defrauding municipalities, which reportedly provided services to Monterey and Millville.
Cole was also accused last summer of fraudulently billing both municipalities, as well as misleading officials about loan applications.
