The Heart of New England Council, Scouting America, the Rutland-based council serving Scouting America throughout Central Massachusetts, has named Jason Pigg as its new scout executive and CEO, effective March 1.

Pigg comes to his new role at Scouting America, the rebranded name of the Boy Scouts of America, having most recently served as the organization’s CFO and director of support services at its Pathway to Adventure Council in Chicago, Illinois. A lifelong scout, Pigg has held a number of roles throughout his 19-year tenure with the organization including working as a camp ranger, properties director, and camping director, according to a Tuesday press release from the Heart of New England Council.

Pigg succeeds Mark Barbernitz, who retired at the end of 2024.

Pigg graduated with his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The Heart of New England Council generated $3.07 million in revenue in 2023 and held $4.33 million in assets, according to nonprofit financial tracker GuideStar.

After five years of allowing girls to join the Boy Scouts of America, the organization announced it would be changing its name to Scouting America on May 7, according to a press release of the same date. The rebrand went into effect on Feb. 8, the organization's 115th anniversary.

“Though our name will be new, our mission remains unchanged: We are committed to teaching young people to be Prepared. For Life,” Scouting America President and CEO Roger Krone said in the release. “This will be a simple but very important evolution as we seek to ensure that everyone feels welcome in scouting.”
