New CEO among leadership changes at Allurion

Natick biotech Allurion Technologies announced Tuesday it has promoted the company’s co-founder to CEO.

Shantanu Gaur assumed the position effective Jan. 1, the company said. He replaces former CEO Jonathan Wecker, who had been in that position since 2010. Wecker will now assume the roles of chairman and chief operating officer, according to a press release.

Co-founder Samuel Levy, who founded the company with Gaur in 2009, will remain in his role as president, working out of the firm’s Paris office.

All three will continue to serve together on the company’s board of directors.

In other Allurion leadership news, Senior Medical Advisor Ram Chuttani will become the company’s chief medical officer. According to Allurion, Chuttani is internationally recognized as an expert in digestive disease care.

Previously, Chuttani was the director of endoscopy and chief of interventional gastroenterology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Also, manufacturing operations expert William Burke joins the firm from Clinton molding manufacturer Nypro. He is tasked with scaling up Allurion’s Elipse Balloon, a gastric balloon the company says requires no surgery for placement or removal.
