Southborough-based Protonex Technology Corp. has received a $301,000 subcontract for work on a new U.S. Army portable power supply project.
Under the contract, Protonex will work for Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense, a military-focused energy company. Protonex will develop a fuel cell for the project, which calls for a high-performance, 100-watt portable power supply for military applications.
The project is for the Army’s communications electronics research development and engineering center.
In the power system, EBA&D equipment will convert a chemical compound into hydrogen and the Protonex fuel cell will convert the hydrogen into electricity.
