NEC system to provide backup power, drinking water to Oregon city

Westborough energy storage systems manufacturer NEC Energy Solutions has completed a 500-kilowatt battery energy storage system at an Oregon elementary school to protect a critical resource during power outages.

The project is part of the Eugene, Oregon’s Water & Electric Board’s effort to provide fresh drinking water during emergencies.

The project will reduce energy costs and ensure resiliency for the Howard Elementary School, the company said.

A well installed at the school will be powered during emergencies by NEC’s system and a local solar array during power outages to provide fresh, potable drinking water to the city’s water customers.
