NBC puts WVIT Channel 30 up for sale

NBC Universal is getting ready to sell its Hartford affiliate, WVIT Channel 30, as well as the NBC station in Miami, WTVJ.

John Wallace, president of the NBC Local Media Division, alerted employees to the decision today in an internal memo. The decision was made in part because of the division's desire to focus on the nation's top ten markets. Hartford is ranked 29th.

NBC 30 General Manager David Doebler declined to comment but referred all questions to the NBC Universal corporate offices in New York. According to BIA Financial Networks, WVIT in Hartford is second in the market, pulling in about 26 percent of the area's TV revenue.
